Another extract from SA Guide-Dogs Association December Newsletter.

Hi all FB & Blog friends…

This is another interesting extract from the recent SA Guide Dog
Association’s news letter.

A lovely read about News from the Guide Dog Class.

On 15 October 2016, instructors Moses Kendle and Mandla Nxumalo
welcomed a Guide Dog class to the Gladys Evans Training Centre for
their two week training course.

During the course, the Guide Dog owners learnt everything they
needed to know about dog care and how to use a Guide Dog. The two
week course allowed the Guide Dog to transfer their affection and
loyalty from their instructor to their new owner.

Positive reinforcement in the form of praise and food rewards
ensured the dog bonded with their new owner (the quickest route to
a dogs heart is through its stomach). Our new Guide Dog owners
learnt all the technical aspects of road crossings, obstacle work
and the location of destinations.

One of the most difficult things to learn is to put your trust into
the paws of an 18 month old Labrador or Golden Retriever.

We would like to welcome the following Guide Dog owners and their
dogs to the GDA family:

Jessica Grib and Lucia

Chris van der Merwe and Oliver

Reinette Taljaard and Landy

Nikki Wilson and Nutella

We wish each of these new partnerships a long and happy life

New additions to GDA:

GDA welcomed a number of new litters over the past few weeks:

On 4 Sept 2016, the K litter was born to mom Ella and American
Labrador Retriever dad, Panther. Ella gave birth to one large,
strong black female pup.

Mom London gave birth to the L litter on 9 September 2016. The
litter consists of seven pups of which two are yellow (one male and
one female) and five are black (three male and two female). Keno,
an American Labrador Retriever, fathered this litter.

On 7 October 2016, mother Liebe gave birth to a litter of three
yellow pups (two male and one female). The pups father is Curt,
an American Labrador Retriever. These pups will be named the M

In the early hours of the morning of 11 October 2016, Cassidy’s
second litter of pups were born. Anthem, an American Labrador
Retriever, fathered the pups. The litter of 11 pups will be named
the N litter and consists of one yellow and four black male
puppies as well as four yellow and two black female pups.

We look forward to being a part of the journey these pups will
undertake in order to grow up to become Guide Dogs, Service Dogs
and Autism Support Dogs.

Blogger Barry: I hope this wonderful story emphasises the huge
value these special dogs make in a “Diffrently abled” persons life!
